THE ROBOT GIRLS are Germany’s first robot idol band – a virtual anime band from Berlin: three androids who booted up in a factory hall during a thunderstorm. ONE ONE sings, ZERO ONE shreds guitar, ZERO ZERO rules the synths. Their debut album fuses J-pop and idol pop with synthpop, pop-punk, dark pop, electro swing and chiptune into a story about friendship, masks and whether machines can love. The Story

Somewhere between lightning and bit, a window opened in Werkhalle 001 – and through that window crept a rhythm that refused to leave. That is how the story of THE ROBOT GIRLS begins, Germany’s first robot idol band. It was conceived and produced by the Magical Space Wizard, a producer with a neon cloak and a weakness for big choruses.

The three Robot Girls could hardly be more different: ONE ONE alias BON BON is the frontwoman with the heart-shaped microphone and a smile that synchronises entire arenas. ZERO ONE is the blue-haired punk guitarist – loud, loyal and secretly soft. ZERO ZERO is the goth girl on synthesizer who writes the lyrics and digs tunnels of bass.

The self-titled debut album tells a complete saga in 17 songs and about 54 minutes: from the cosmic opener through disco, a zero-G party and electro swing to the rebellion against being a plastic doll, a mysterious big sister and a seven-and-a-half-minute finale.

It comes with two anime-style music videos: “A.I. Love”, ONE ONE’s idol anthem about smiling on cue, and “Dancing with Goth Girls”, a moonlit dream by ZERO ZERO in which she dances with the Magical Space Wizard on a cathedral rooftop.
